So it begins

So today it has only been a few days since I have made the decision to convert to Christianity – Orthodox Christianity or Orthodox Catholicism to be exact.

It’s only fair to mention that as a child I grew up in a Christian household.

Went to church and everything – but I didn’t like it.

As I got older I felt there was something missing in my faith – I attended the ‘typical’ African American Full Gospel Church, complete with all the whooping and hollering.

So I discovered Islam, and the prospect of all the prayer and devotion intrigued me.

But, as I delved deeper into my then new faith, I began to find inconsistencies and other things that slowly began turning me off – not to mention the omission of Christ as the redeemer didn’t sit well with me.

Nonetheless I remained faithful for just about 5 years.

Then one day I began researching different aspects of Christianity – in search for something more complete that also warranted to devotion that I so craved.

That is when I stumbled upon Eastern/Oriental Orthodox Christianity.

I haven’t looked back since!

So I decided to start a blog recording my journey into my new faith to include everything from finding a church, getting my first rosary beads, learning my prayers and so on.

I should also mention that while I was in Islam, my husband remained Christian and although it didn’t affect my marriage, it did effect my relationships with fellow Muslims as they did not recognize my marriage as valid and pressured me to divorce my husband.

My husband, myself, and our children are all on this new journey together and are looking forward to how our lives are going to change on this course.
